“Audi, filia, et vide”. Graduale
Liber Usualis
“Graduale” its a play conceived for clarinet soloist and an instrumental ensemble divided between three groups well differenciated acusticaly as spacealy: violin, viola and piano situated on left side of the scenary; a percusionist behind the clarinet; and an on right side of the scenary the second violin, cello and harp. Between them it opens a kind of dialect that goes from the responsoryal nearer to that of graduale in the gregoryan chant, to the variated comentary of the clarinet material in an amplified shape, resonance group, memorization... All this starting from a reelaboration melodical design of a graduale taker from the Liber Usualis and framed in a ciclical shape nearer to the conception of a perpetual variation.

Comments : “El sueño de un extraño” (A Strange Man’s Dream) is a work conceived from a unique perspective as a trio. In reality, during the approximately seventeen minutes of music, there are few instances in which the three instruments accompany each other in the traditional sense of the term. Each player develops as basic material of his/her instrument. The enigmatic chords of the piano with which the piece begins and which might represent the beginning of the dream, are embroidered by the strings, until the piano bursts out alone from this union of the separate instruments. Immediately, a lengthy cadenza —nearly three minutes long— played by cello replaces the piano’s erstwhile prominence. The initial “battle” has been won. An ecstatic “molto calmo” invades the sonic landscape. In the midst of the slow progression of harmonies the violin slowly comes to the foreground. Sonorous images already heard (or dreamed) seem to reappear and impose themselves on the musical discourse. The dream already dreamed comes to be dreamed again, although inevitably we recognize that even though it’s the same dream, all is not equal. One senses that the simple repetition inundates the original dream with new tensions. Images reappear charged with new energy until the tension dissipates in a new section marked “molto calmo” —ecstatic and surely more distant. It may be the last moment of repose for the unconscious before being able to understand that, through the accumulation of sonic images accrued by memory and time, our dream has been in reality “A Strange Man’s Dream”
