Demián Luna
Argentine composer, born in Cordoba on 22 January 1975.
He began studying theory, musical language and composition techniques with Prof. Claudio Bazan and Piano with Profs. Aldo Cerino and Silvia Richiardielo. In 1994 he joined the 'School of the Arts' from the 'Universidad Nacional de Cordoba' (Arg) to make studies for the 'Bachelor of Music Composition', as a student of the composer Graciela Castillo. There, he continued his Piano studies with pianist Maria Ines Caramello. Later expanding its training in Harmony, counterpoint and composition with Prof. Pablo De Giusto. In 2002 he traveled to Barcelona (Spain), to study 'Improvement and musical specialization in Composition and Instrumentation' in the 'Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu', being a student of Spanish composer Benet Casablancas. He has attended as a student at to many lectures and composition courses taught by renowned musicians, among them: Jonathan Harvey, G. Aperghis, B. Ferneyhough, F. Cerha, Kaija Saariaho, Luis de Pablo, Cristobal Halffter, Hector Parra, Alberto Posadas, César Camarero, Giacomo Manzoni, Franco Donatoni, Arditti Quartet (Workshop).
In 2007, his 'Four Songs' (Mezzo-soprano and piano) receives the 2nd prize in the '2nd Vocal Composition Contest Amics del Liceu' (Barcelona). In 2008 he was selected to the 'Chair of Composition Manuel de Falla' (Cádiz), with a grant from the 'Junta de Andalusía' to attend the Lecture, delivered by the composer César Camarero. This same year he received a commission of 'Fundaciò Privada de L’Auditori i L'Orchestra ', a work for piano to be premiered at the Barcelona's festival of contemporary music, 'Nous Sons 2009', and another of the 'Residencia de Estudiantes' (Madrid), a work for ensemble to premiere in March 2009 within the series 'Masters and Disciples.' In late 2008 he was awarded the prize 'Francisco Guerrero Marin' of the 'XIX Young Composers Competition', awarded by the CDMC and Fundación Autor. In 2009, his work 'A music offered' (Cl, Vl., Vc. And Pno.) gets a special mention in the 'V Musici Mojanesi competition 2009'. Treviso, Italy. In early 2010 received a commission of 'Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra', to the composition of a work that will be released and scheduled by the Andalusian orchestra. That same year he received an 'incentive to create symphonic works 2010' given by for the Fundación Autor and the AEOS (Spanish Association of Symphony Orchestras), and a 'Fellowship for creating 2010' by the 'National Council for Culture and the Arts' (Conca) and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Also in 2010, his work for ensemble 'Echoes of Light' is awarded the prize 'TRINAC 2010' (National Tribune of Composers), Argentina, and selected to attend the prestigious composition course in Darmstadt, Germany. In early 2011 receives a commission from the 'Instituto Valenciano de la Musica', an ensemble piece, to be premiered in the festival 'Ensems' - Music Festival of Contemporary Music in Valencia-, in May of this year, and another one of the Ensemble Recherche. Recently, for his ensemble piece 'Echoes of Light', is selected to represent Argentina in the 'World Music Days 2012' in Belgium, organized by 'International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM)'.
His music has been performed in prestigious venues: Auditorium of the University Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina), Hall of the School of Arts, Auditorium Deutsche Schule, Hall of the Conservatory Del Liceu (Barcelona), Ateneu Barcelonés, Auditorium 400 of the National Museum Art Center Reina Sofia (Madrid), L’Auditori (Barcelona), Residencia de Estudiantes (Madrid), Palau de la Música de Valencia, Grosser Saal Akademie für Tonkunst (Darmstadt, Germany), Auditorium Professional Council in Economic Sciences (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Auditorium Conservatory of Perpignan (France), Palau de la Música Catalana, Palau de les Arts de Valencia, Teatro Cervantes (Malaga), Arnold Schoenberg Center (Vienna).
He has composed music for solo instruments, vocal, chamber and symphonic.
He currently lives in Barcelona (Spain), where he combines his work as Composer with teaching.
