Biography
Finalist of the Bartók World Composition Competition 2022, José Antonio Tolosa is an emerging figure in the current musical landscape, multifaceted, in the disciplines of composition, conducting and piano performance.
He began his musical studies at CIM Mislata with piano teacher Susana Hovhannisyan, and flute teacher Raúl Pérez. He continued to train at the Professional Conservatory of Music in Valencia until 2015, obtaining the title of professional education, both in piano with teacher María Amparo Morell and in flute with teacher Raúl Pérez, obtaining the highest qualifications. In 2020 he graduated from the specialty of piano performance at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya with professor Rafael Salinas, also receiving flute lessons from Júlia Gallego.
Since then, he perfected his piano playing with the musician Josu de Solaun. His composition studies are under the supervision of David del Puerto, among others.
Throughout his musical career, José Antonio has performed at important festivals as a pianist, notably the 'Poros Piano Festival' (2017), the Russian music festival 'Musical Krasnogorsk' (2017), 'Global Granados Marathon' (2017) and Isaac Albéniz de Camprodon festival (2019). He has also given numerous recitals in the most important halls of his native city, Valencia, such as the Palau de la Música or the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, as well as the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Auditori de Barcelona or the Scriabin Auditorium in Moscow, among others. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Athens Sinfonietta.
His talent has been recognized in national and international competitions. As a composer, the aforementioned Bartók World Composition Competition (2022), in which he was a finalist, as well as the first prize 'Mestre Clavel' of Composition Ciutat d'Alboraia (2022); and as a pianist, highlights include the First Prize for pianists 'Ciutat de Torredembarra' (2015), Second Prize in the 'Ciutat de Mataró' piano competition (2016) and Second Prize in the Young Pianists of Catalonia competition (2019). His music has been performed by the Hungarian Radio Orchestra.
In November 2022, his first album was released on the market: 'Soledats tragiques', with the record label 'la mà de Guido'. This work compiles his own works for piano composed only during the pandemic and performed by the author himself on the piano, and has been nominated for 'best classical music album' in the last edition of the Enderrock awards for Catalan music.
Since 2022 he publishes his scores with the prestigious Viennese publisher Universal Edition.
